Water Influence on the Determination of the Rock Matrix Bulk Modulus in Reservoir Engineering and Rock-Fluid Coupling Projects

This research was conducted to determine how the incorporation of different poroelastic equations would affect measured rock matrix bulk modulus in laboratory. To do this, three experimental methods were used measure modulus, Ks, seven sandstone specimens taken from Świętokrzyskie mine Poland. Those based on governing poroelasticty theory. The has a substantial impact strength against external stresses. Moreover, depends directly two components: pore fluid and modulus. second one is more important as it much higher than first one. In this study, accuracy those measurement evaluated. For purpose, an acoustic wave propagation apparatus perform required tests. each method, empirical correlation extracted between applied hydrostatic stress. all experiments, exponential observed stress rock. Furthermore, found that dry calculations led underestimation addition, raised, also increased. methodology can be deployed coupled rock-fluid problems such reservoir depletion, hydraulic fracturing, oil recovery enhancement, underground gas storage land subsidence.
